Timing shifter

Nudge every cue by a number of seconds, or scale the timeline when the file was timed to the wrong speed. Negative shifts clamp at zero so a cue cannot start before the picture.

Positive offset moves every cue later. Negative moves them earlier, and a cue that would start before zero is clamped. Scale is for when you changed the video speed after the captions were written. The words are not rewritten.

How to use it

Offset is added to every start and end. +1.5 makes the whole file later by a second and a half. −0.4 makes it earlier. A cue that would start before zero starts at zero, and its end stays at least a twentieth of a second later.

Scale multiplies the timestamps before the offset. 0.5 fits a file that was timed on a double-speed picture. 2 fits the reverse. Leave scale at 1 when you only need a sync nudge.

The text is unchanged. Download SRT or VTT. There is no model and no waiting.

Tips

  • Find one line you can hear, measure how early it is, and use that as the offset for the file.
  • Scale and offset together are easy to overdo. Shift first. Scale only when the drift grows through the file.
  • If one scene is wrong and the rest is right, this tool will move the scenes that were already correct. Split the file.

FAQ

Does this translate the words?

No. It only moves timestamps. The translator is the other page.

What happens to a cue that would start before zero?

The start becomes 0. The end is kept at least 0.05 seconds after the start.

Is the subtitle file uploaded?

No. Parsing happens in the page.
