Background remover
A free Remove.bg alternative

What this page is offering
Cutshed publishes 26 free browser tools. Vocal removal, audio and video trims, compression, format conversion, background removal, upscaling, subtitles, and a timeline editor run in the tab. The file you open in those tools is not uploaded. There is no account and no watermark on a free export. Studio is separate, and it is the only paid part of the site. A Studio job sends the prompt, and a reference only when the model accepts one, to the provider. The credit price is the provider cost times 1.5, rounded up to the nearest 5. Packs are $5 for 400, $10 for 850, and $25 for 2,250. Credits stay on the account until they are spent. A failed or blocked generation puts them back. An unused pack is not refunded, except where the law requires it. The default clip, a 5-second Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p, is 30 credits. Seedance 2.5 at 720p is 175 credits for 5 seconds, which is $2.19 on the $5 pack, $2.06 on the $10 pack, $1.94 on the $25 pack.
Cutshed’s background remover runs U²-Netp, Apache-2.0, in the browser and downloads a transparent PNG. The photo is not uploaded. There is no account, no credit, and no monthly preview limit. Hair and fine edges are only as good as that small model. A messy fringe, motion blur, or a subject that matches the background will leave holes. The page tells you to check the checkerboard before you use the PNG.
remove.bg is a hosted cutout service: you upload the photo and download a cutout. Its pricing page is the source for current rates. On 10 October 2026 that page did not include a price table in the HTML we could read, so this comparison does not quote a remove.bg dollar price, a credit pack, or a shutdown date. If you need their current offer, read remove.bg/pricing.
Where a hosted cutout is better
remove.bg is built for cutout quality, bulk jobs, and an API. Cutshed is one photo at a time, on one device, with one open model. If you are cutting a catalog, a hosted pipeline with a reviewed edge model will beat a laptop tab. Canva’s help says photo background removal with Canva AI is on paid plans, and that video background removal lives in the editor for clips under 10 minutes. Those are different products from a free on-device PNG, and for a polished marketing still they are often the better result.
Cutshed is the better fit when the photo should not be uploaded, when you need the cutout to be free without a plan, or when you are already on this site for a thumbnail or a video crop. The PNG is yours to drop into the thumbnail maker or the editor. Nothing about that step opens a remove.bg account.
What you should not expect
Do not expect remove.bg’s edge quality from U²-Netp. Do not expect a batch API. Do not expect the tool to invent a new background; it only removes one. If you need a generated scene behind the subject, that is a Studio image job, it costs credits, and it does upload the prompt. The background remover itself does not.
Canva and remove.bg can be the right next step after you have decided the photo may leave the machine. Cutshed is the step before that decision.

FAQ
Is this remove.bg, or affiliated with it?
No. It is an on-device U²-Netp cutout. remove.bg is a separate hosted product. This page uses the name only so you can compare the jobs.
Why is there no remove.bg price in the table?
The pricing page did not show a price table in the HTML available on 10 October 2026. Guessing a pack would be worse than sending you to the page.
Can I cut out a video background here?
No. This tool is a still image. Canva’s help describes video background removal in their editor for clips under 10 minutes, and photo AI removal as a paid-plan feature.
Remove a background locally
Drop a still. Download a PNG. If the hair edge is not good enough, use a hosted cutout and accept the upload.
