What you are comparing

Cutshed publishes 26 free browser tools. Vocal removal, audio and video trims, compression, format conversion, background removal, upscaling, subtitles, and a timeline editor run in the tab. The file you open in those tools is not uploaded. There is no account and no watermark on a free export. Studio is separate, and it is the only paid part of the site. A Studio job sends the prompt, and a reference only when the model accepts one, to the provider. The credit price is the provider cost times 1.5, rounded up to the nearest 5. Packs are $5 for 400, $10 for 850, and $25 for 2,250. Credits stay on the account until they are spent. A failed or blocked generation puts them back. An unused pack is not refunded, except where the law requires it. The default clip, a 5-second Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p, is 30 credits. Seedance 2.5 at 720p is 175 credits for 5 seconds, which is $2.19 on the $5 pack, $2.06 on the $10 pack, $1.94 on the $25 pack.

Kapwing is a collaborative online editor. Its help center, updated in August and September 2026, prices Pro at $16 per member per month when billed annually, or $24 month to month. Business is $50 per member per month annually, or $64 month to month. Enterprise is custom. Free accounts get 10 credits, once, not per month. Pro gets 1,000 credits a month, Business gets 4,000, and an extra 500 credits cost $50. Those credits do not roll over.

The same help pages describe the free editor’s limits: uploads up to 250 MB, exports up to 4 minutes, a watermark, and 720p only. Paid plans raise that to uploads up to 6 GB and exports up to 120 minutes, remove the watermark, and give Pro 1080p. Those limits are Kapwing’s published rules. Cutshed’s free tools do not use them, because they do not upload the file and they do not stamp a watermark on the export.

Where Kapwing is ahead

Kapwing is better at working with other people in one project, at templates, and at a cloud subtitle workflow inside a fuller online editor. If the team needs comments, a shared brand kit, or a timeline everyone can open in a browser without installing anything, Kapwing is built for that and Cutshed is not. Cutshed has no shared projects and no comments.

Cutshed is ahead when the recording should not be uploaded, when the export has to be longer than four minutes without a paid plan, or when you do not want a watermark on a free file. A half-hour interview can be trimmed, transcribed, and exported on this site without buying a seat. The cost is your own CPU, and the first run of ffmpeg or Whisper downloads the weights into the browser.

Credits are not the same unit

A Kapwing credit and a Cutshed credit buy different things. Kapwing’s free grant is 10 credits for the life of the account, then a monthly allowance on a paid seat. Cutshed’s free tools do not spend credits at all. Studio credits are only for generation, they are sold in the packs above, and they are not a monthly stipend.

A 5-second Seedance 2.0 Mini clip at 480p is 30 Cutshed credits. That number comes from the catalog, not from a slogan. It will not match a Kapwing credit, and it should not be read as one.

Kapwing’s upload cap also changes the kind of file you can start with. A free Kapwing project stops at 250 MB. Cutshed reads the file from disk, so the limit is the browser’s memory and the tool’s own duration cap, not a 250 MB cloud upload. A long master can be trimmed down locally and only then, if you want Kapwing’s collaboration, uploaded as a shorter file.

FAQ

Can Cutshed replace Kapwing for a team?

No. There are no shared projects, comments, or seats. It replaces the solo jobs that should stay on one machine.

Does the Cutshed editor add a watermark?

No. Free exports are not watermarked. Kapwing’s help page says the free plan’s export is watermarked and capped at 4 minutes and 720p.

Are the credit systems interchangeable?

No. Kapwing’s free account includes 10 credits total. Cutshed’s free tools do not use credits. Studio credits are a separate balance for generation.

Edit without uploading

The timeline stays in the browser. Kapwing remains the better cloud editor if you need the team features above.
