# How to split a video into equal parts online (free, no upload)
Published November 5, 2026 .
Open Video splitter, drop an MP4, MOV, or WebM, and type a length such as 14.9 seconds. The page cuts consecutive equal parts and shows a short last piece if the clip does not divide evenly. Download each MP4, or all of them as a ZIP. The job runs in the browser and nothing is uploaded. The limit is 3 minutes or 200 MB, and no more than 40 parts.
The tool for this is Video splitter . You type one length in seconds. The page divides the clip into consecutive parts of that length. 14.9 and 15 are both valid. Times are measured in milliseconds, so 14.9 is 14900 ms, not a rounded 15. Use your own videos, or videos you have the rights to.
The first run downloads a single-thread ffmpeg build, about 31 MB, and caches it. Later splits in the same tab reuse that copy. The file you dropped stays as it was.
## Steps
- Drop an MP4, MOV, or WebM Open Video splitter and drop the file. The page reads the duration in the browser. If this browser cannot play the clip, the length is read from the file header instead. The limit is 3 minutes or 200 MB, the same cap as the other video tools, and no more than 40 parts.
- Type the segment length The length field opens on 15 seconds. Type the length you want each equal part to be, including a decimal such as 14.9. An optional start offset skips the head of the file. The line under the fields shows how many equal parts you get and how long the remainder is.
- Keep or drop the short last piece If the clip does not divide evenly, the tail is the remainder. A 60 second file at 14.9 seconds leaves 0.4 seconds. Leave the remainder checked to keep that last file, or uncheck it and download only the equal parts.
- Leave Exact on, or switch to Fast Exact is the default. It re-encodes H.264 and AAC so the cut lands on the time you typed, keeps the source width and height, and writes the audio as AAC. Fast copies the streams and can only cut on a keyframe, so a part may start or end a fraction of a second, or a couple of seconds, away from the time you typed.
- Download each MP4 or a ZIP Click Split video. Download one part at a time, or click Download all as ZIP after every part finishes. The archive is named like clip_parts.zip. Each file inside is named like clip_part-01.mp4. The ZIP is built in the tab. Close the tab only after the downloads finish. The parts exist as blobs on this page.
## What the page does with the length you type
## How to choose the segment length
Pick the length each finished part should be, not the number of parts. For a vertical post, 14.9 or 15 seconds is a common chunk. The page does not enforce a TikTok, Reels, or Shorts rule. It only cuts the duration you typed. Watch the plan line. It tells you the part count and the remainder before you click Split.
A length longer than the clip after the offset is refused, unless you keep the remainder and that remainder is the only piece. A split that would make more than 40 parts is also refused. Lengthen the segment until the count is 40 or fewer.
## Equal parts for a phone post
The splitter does not reframe. After you have the parts, Video crop center-crops one to 9:16. The walkthrough is how to crop a video to 9:16 . Video trimmer is the other cut: a start and an end, not a row of equal parts. It uses the same 3 minute and 200 MB limit.
If a part is still too large to send, compress it . The size guide is how to compress a video for Discord . Merge clips joins two files back together when you need the reverse of a split. Two files is the limit for one merge pass.
A long VOD is a different job. Stream to Shorts looks for loud moments and writes vertical clips. It does not slice the whole file into equal lengths. Use the splitter when you already know the length of each part.
## Exact or Fast
Leave Exact on when the parts have to match a caption, a beat, or a length you typed. Exact re-encodes, so a phone can run out of memory. If it does, the page says the phone does not have enough memory to re-encode and points you to Fast. Fast copies the file and uses less memory. Those cuts follow keyframes.
Phone videos are often HEVC with the index at the end of the file. Exact tries to re-encode that. If the decoder stops, the page copies the streams instead and says so. A WebM whose codec an MP4 cannot copy will ask you to switch to Exact. Fast keeps the audio and the picture when the container can hold them.
## Troubleshooting
If the duration line says the browser could not read a duration, export the video as H.264 and try again. The length is taken from the preview first. If this browser cannot play the clip, the movie header is used instead.
Files over 3 minutes or 200 MB are refused. A longer master belongs in an editor. Trim it first, or split it on a computer if a phone runs out of memory inside that limit. The source file is not changed.
## Do this part in Cutshed
- Video splitter Cuts consecutive equal parts from a length you type, such as 14.9 seconds, and downloads each MP4 or a ZIP. 3 minutes or 200 MB, and no more than 40 parts. Nothing is uploaded.
- Video trimmer Cuts one start and end instead of a row of equal parts. The same 3 minute and 200 MB limit.
- Video crop Center-crops a finished part to 9:16, 1:1, or 16:9. The splitter does not reframe.
- Merge clips Joins two files when you need the reverse of a split. Two files is the limit for one pass.
- Video compressor Shrinks a part toward a size you pick before you share it.
- Stream to Shorts Finds loud moments in a VOD and writes vertical clips. It does not slice the whole file into equal lengths.
## FAQ
- How do I split a video into equal parts?
Open Video splitter, drop an MP4, MOV, or WebM, type a length in seconds, and click Split video. The page cuts consecutive parts of that length. Download each MP4, or all of them as a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded.
- How do I split a video online for free?
Video splitter is a free browser tool. It does not spend Studio credits. The first run downloads the encoder, about 31 MB, and later splits in the same tab reuse that copy.
- Can I split an MP4 into chunks?
Yes. Drop the MP4 and type the chunk length. 14.9 seconds and 15 seconds are both accepted. A 60 second clip at 14.9 seconds is 4 parts of 14.9 seconds plus a 0.4 second remainder. The page also takes MOV and WebM.
- How do I cut a video into segments for Reels, TikTok, or Shorts?
Type the length you want each segment to be. The page does not enforce a platform rule. It cuts the duration you typed. Crop a part to 9:16 afterward if the frame is still horizontal. The splitter does not reframe.
- Is the video uploaded?
No. ffmpeg.wasm reads the file in the tab. Nothing is posted to a server. The limit is 3 minutes or 200 MB, and no more than 40 parts.
- How do I download a ZIP of the parts?
After every part finishes, click Download all as ZIP. The archive is named like clip_parts.zip, and each file inside is named like clip_part-01.mp4. You can also download one part at a time. The ZIP is built in the tab.
- What happens to the short last piece?
If the clip does not divide evenly, the tail is the remainder. Keep it as the last file, or uncheck it and download only the equal parts. A 60 second file at 14.9 seconds leaves 0.4 seconds.
Files stay on this device.
Free tools never upload the file you open. Studio is the only paid part of the site, and the only place a prompt is sent to a video model.
