About Cutshed

Cutshed is a set of tools for people who cut video and audio: trims, conversions, a vocal split, captions, stills, and a few small models. They exist because those jobs usually mean uploading a master to someone else’s server, waiting, and hoping the file is deleted. Here the tab does the work.

There is no account. The site is a pile of static files. Hosting stays cheap because nothing in the request path is a GPU. The first time you use a tool, the browser downloads the model or the ffmpeg build and keeps it in the Cache API or IndexedDB. Your media is not part of that cache.

What runs locally

• Vocal removal uses Open-Unmix UMX-HQ vocals, MIT, from the SigSep / Inria weights (Zenodo 3370489), ONNX export by edgetools. UMX-L was skipped because it is non-commercial.
• Background removal uses U²-Netp, Apache-2.0. RMBG-1.4 is not included; those weights are non-commercial.
• Image upscaling uses Real-ESRGAN general x4v3, BSD-3-Clause, tiled on WASM.
• Speech noise reduction uses RNNoise, BSD-3-Clause, via the Apache-2.0 Jitsi wasm build. It is for voice, not music.
• Subtitles and the transcript use OpenAI Whisper tiny via Transformers.js, MIT, quantized. You pick the language.
• Subtitle translation uses Helsinki-NLP OPUS-MT, CC BY 4.0. NLLB is not included because the distilled weights are CC BY-NC. Portuguese pairs are omitted because a usable public OPUS-MT checkpoint is not available for this runtime.
• Tempo and key, subtitle timing, and the transcript-to-post layout are original code in the page. Essentia.js was not used; it is AGPL.
• Audio and video encoding uses a single-thread ffmpeg.wasm build. The JavaScript wrapper is MIT. The core binary is GPL because it includes GPL-enabled FFmpeg libraries. HEIC is not supported: this build has no libheif.
• ONNX Runtime Web runs the networks. Its browser build uses threads, so the host must send cross-origin isolation headers. The README has the exact pair.

What this is not

It is not a stem shop with drums, bass, and “other” as separate files. It is not a caption burn-in, a face tracker, or a HEIC converter. It is not a place to process a song or a photo you do not have rights to. The model licenses cover the software, not the recording.
